IN RECOGNITION OF SERVICE

This page is to honor those who have founded, lifted up, and shaped the ISSA into what it is today. Their contributions and dedication are greatly appreciated and we hold each of them dear to our hearts.

ANITA RADOS

As many of you may have heard, in 2021 our Shiloh community lost one of our amazing breeders and board members after an extended battle with cancer.

For those of you that did not know her, Anita Rados and her husband Brian were the breeders behind Shahayla Shilohs (since 2014) in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Anita was an active board member since the beginning of the ISSA and always brought to the table a balanced and valuable viewpoint. Above all of this Anita was a wonderful person and for anyone that was fortunate enough to know her, she was an incredible friend.

We will sadly miss that many conversations that we had talking "dogs" and many other things. I can envision her standing across the Rainbow Bridge with her beautiful "Mazi" by her side and that inviting smile on her face. My heart aches that we will not see Anita again, but we are committed to carrying on her lines and we hope that through these beautiful dogs, her memory will live on.

Beyond being an amazing breeder, committed to the excellence in her litters and the Shiloh Shepherd in general, she was also a n outstanding dog trainer and helped many in her area find the best in their dogs. It is with this in mind that the ISSA in 2021 announced the creation of the Anita Rados Memorial award.

With this award, we would like to recognize training and achievement in our Shilohs that goes beyond the show ring and reflects the “balance” and extended achievement in partnership with our dogs that Anita supported as a trainer. Each year one or more themes will be chosen--things like Service, Games, Tricks, Work, and so on--and with that theme in mind, ISSA Shilohs and their owners can be nominated in consideration for this award. The ISSA Board will review the nominees and the recipient will be the Shiloh/owner team that best reflects each chosen theme.

I know that Anita would be thrilled to know that we are promoting the more active side of our Shilohs’ capabilities through this award, and that we are recognizing that these dogs are so much more than just a pretty face. We hope that through this award, her philosophy of achievement through doing will be carried on, and with this, her spirit will live on.

ZWANET BOER

Zwanet Boer of Dutch Pride Shilohs served as International Advisor on our ISSA Board for four years, stepping back from both breeding and from the Board in 2020. She served as the president of the Dutch chapter of the ISSA for several years, and is a certified adult Temperament Tester and LER tester for the European Shiloh pups. She and her husband Henk started a Shiloh Shepherd Netherlands website in Dutch that translates the information from the official ISSA site, so that the information could be presented in both languages.

Zwanet was instrumental in establishing the ISSA's Shiloh community in the Netherlands and greater Europe. She worked extremely hard on developing our overseas gene pool and on the careful planning of breedings, and also assisted with our understanding of the rules for breeding in Europe--often quite different from the ones in North America. Her foundation girl, Shima, was the first Shiloh bitch to ever have a litter in the Netherlands. Shima, and later Zanthe, became two of the girls who built a strong foundation for ISSA Shilohs overseas.

Zwanet always believed passionately in the quest for a healthier breed, and served on the Outcross Committee when it was established. She was key to the ISSA obtaining and utilizing our first outcross, Boeke, in 2019. She offered her own girl, Feylin, as the dam for this first ISSA outcross litter.

We are grateful to Zwanet for all of her hard work and oversight, and we will miss her on the Board. Thank you so much, Zwanet, for all of your effort on behalf of the ISSA.
